These standard 7-hoop nets are what we consider our top of the line commercial grade nets. The 2' and 2.5' nets are made with our 1/2" x 1/2" hoops and 4.5' and larger are made with our 5/8" x 5/8" hoops. These nets come standard with dual finger flews. One on the 2nd and one on the 4th hoop. These are what you would call "river nets" but can be fished in other waters as well. These nets are great for backwater and or shallow lake areas. The lead acts like a wall in the water and forces the fish to turn one direction or another and leads them into the net.

Setting Catfish Traps

A short introduction for those who are new to setting catfish traps: these traps should be baited and set with the open end pointed downstream or towards open water in still waters (we recommend Block Bait or cheese). It is best to soak for 2 to 3 days, when conditions allow.

Replacement Webbs for Wire Catfish Nets

For 3 1/2' and 4' nets order 4' leads.

Leads have no floats, but may be ordered with floats. Many people buy FL-SB2 ($ 0.73), then split float to snap in on top rope.

Turtles are some of the easier things to trap. They tend to bait to a net trap very well. Just tie a piece of bait like chicken or fish in the trap then set the trap in the shallow waters around the edges. Leave the net over night and then retrieve your catch daily. It is necessary to leave a couple of inches of the trap above the water line so that the turtles can breathe even if you are just wanting to eradicate them as they will die and decompose very quickly. The nylon turtle nets require you to bridle the front of the net and tie it off to a stake on each end. These nets are most popular with commercial fisherman and for catching LARGE turtles.

The D shaped turtle nets have become the most popular due the ease of shipping and setting them. They can be set like the others or you can purchase the rods for the net and apply them to each side of the net making it rigid. The reinforcement wire turtle net is the easiest to set as you can just set it in the water and then run a rod thru the net to hold it in place. These are just some suggestions and not the only way to fish these nets.

Use caution when choosing the mesh size of your net as this has a lot to do with what size turtles will stay in the net. As always we suggest that you make yourself aware with state and federal laws that pertain to turtle fishing before making a purchase.
