Turtles are some of the easier things to trap. They tend to bait to a net trap very well. Just tie a piece of bait like chicken or fish in the trap then set the trap in the shallow waters around the edges. Leave the net over night and then retrieve your catch daily. It is necessary to leave a couple of inches of the trap above the water line so that the turtles can breathe even if you are just wanting to eradicate them as they will die and decompose very quickly. The nylon turtle nets require you to bridle the front of the net and tie it off to a stake on each end. These nets are most popular with commercial fisherman and for catching LARGE turtles.

The D shaped turtle nets have become the most popular due the ease of shipping and setting them. They can be set like the others or you can purchase the rods for the net and apply them to each side of the net making it rigid. The reinforcement wire turtle net is the easiest to set as you can just set it in the water and then run a rod thru the net to hold it in place. These are just some suggestions and not the only way to fish these nets.

Use caution when choosing the mesh size of your net as this has a lot to do with what size turtles will stay in the net. As always we suggest that you make yourself aware with state and federal laws that pertain to turtle fishing before making a purchase.
